Mark The Stars by Tessa Hale

All Rowan wanted was a normal senior year.

Mark of Stars, the second book in the all-new reverse harem Shifting Fate Trilogy from Tessa Hale is now available!

All Rowan wanted was a normal senior year. To fade into the background of her classmates. Instead, her entire world has been turned upside down. Words she never thought she would utter are now a part of her everyday life. Shifters. Powers. Bonds.

Comfort comes from the five fated mates who would do anything to protect her. Their connections are deepening, yet Rowan isn’t convinced all of them want her. Holden has secrets. Vaughn comes to her rescue in one breath and cuts her to the core with the next. But Anson, Lucas, and Keene will do anything to make their bond work and to convince Rowan that she’s all they’ve ever wanted.

They’re all trying, but each new development leaves Rowan reeling. As they realize just what kind of gift Rowan has, they discover it’s impossible to know who to trust.

Because there are those who lurk in the shadows, forces that want the power Rowan has humming beneath her skin. And they will stop at nothing to get it…

Review:

What an amazing read! I am loving this second book to this trilogy. It's very character, and plot driven at the same time. The story isn't rehashed and picks up right there the first one left off. There is intrigue, and lust, love, hate, and so much more in this anticipated read and I couldn't be happier. It's told all in Rowen's POV, but I would like to see multiple pov, but it doesn't detract from the story at all.
Edgy, little sad, a little funny, this story kind of has you all over the place. The characters continue to develop in more ways than one, and you have to actually read the books to know what I am talking about. The development and pace of the book is awesome, but I was sad it was over before I knew it. Totally will re-read this when the third comes out, so I can read all three in one go.

Review:
What a good book. This book has a little bit of everything. There is romance, intrigue, hate, fear, love and so much more. The author has taken on what it would be like to be Satan's daughter, and she does it so well. I felt like I was part of this story, I felt like the story, was somehow my story, and I was fully meshed with the characters. The writing is imaginative, and well done. The characters are well developed, and totally relatable. This story also makes you think about what is right and wrong. Well done, do yourself a favor and pick up this story that is told in first person pov.

Review:

This is was really, really good book, it starts the premise for what I am sure will a fantastic series. This book we get to learn, what the series will be about, and who the characters all are. There is no sex whatsoever there is some kissing, but it's very minimal. So if you are looking for that, this ain't for you. As the book continues we get to see growth of the characters, and see some of the secrets revealed, but not all mind you. Probably not even the tip of the iceberg. I will for sure be interested in reading more of this series to see how everything unfolds. I am invested now. It's told in first person pov. Totally safe for 14+ ages.

Alpha Bully by Renee Rose

Synopsis:

SHE RUINED EVERYTHING... I WILL MAKE HER PAY.

Her mom robbed my dad of his job. Destroyed his life.
Now I have to look at her every day.
The girl next door. A human. A hot little nerd.
She doesn’t belong here—not in Wolf Ridge,
not at our high school, definitely not in my life.
She doesn’t know what I am.
Which makes it all the easier to take revenge.
I will bring her to her knees. Pierce her heart.
Make her bleed. For me.
All for me.

Excerpt

Cole

It’s past midnight when I wake up. My window’s open, moonlight streaming in.
That wasn’t what woke me, though.
It wasn’t the pain of the beating, either. That’s already half-healed. By tomorrow it will be nothing.
That’s the thing about wolf discipline. It’s more about dominance and humiliation than actual pain.
Casey and I aren’t in real danger.
But that doesn’t mean the shit doesn’t hurt.
I rub the stubble on my chin and blink into the darkness.
There’s a tug on my wolf, pulling me to the window.
And I know exactly what I’m going to see when I look out.
Even so, my heart stutters.
The little human is standing outside. Standing underneath my window, looking up.
Like she’s waiting for me and she knew I’d come. Prickles run across my skin.
She’s in the same dress she wore today—another short one, blue and white stripes.
She lost the Converse, though. She’s barefooted on the crushed granite.
Which must hurt her tender human feet.
I’m in gym shorts. I pull on a black tank top as I stare down at her.
She’s standing there like a fucking tribute. A virginal offering.
She must really feel guilty.
I shove the window open and pop the screen out.
It’s not the first time I’ve climbed out this window,
but I try not to make it look too easy when I scale across the patio overhang
and drop to the gravel in front of her. “Hey.”
She’s crying. Silent tears that streak down her pale cheeks.
I wonder if she ever stopped.
If she’s been leaking those salty tears since she saw the ugliness that is my dad shit-faced.
The scent of her tears does something to me.
Makes me itchy and raw, with the need to smash things with my fists.
“Stop it.” I sound menacing. I’m not sorry. She silently called me out here.
She’s gonna get what she gets. I advance on her like a fucking predator.
She backs up. She must sense how dangerous I am right now. How unhinged.
“Was it because of me?”
Of course it was because of her. But I’m not going to say that. That shit isn’t her fault.
Instead, I growl, “Stop crying for me.”
Her big brown eyes are wide. I wonder how well she can see me in the dark.
Not nearly as well as I can see her.
“Stop it,” I command. “I’m the one who got the beatdown.”
“Cole.” It’s a broken syllable. So much emotion packed into one sound.
Apology. Pleading. Desperation, even.
My control snaps. I snatch her face up to mine with a hand behind her head and devour her mouth.
It tastes like all the emotion I heard.
Except more.
I savor gratitude and soft, supple generosity. Pent up anger. Grief.
Desire.
I scoop my forearm under her ass to pick her up and slam her back against the tan stucco of her house.
She opens her lips for me, lets me in. It’s not how I imagined it.
It’s better.
More raw. Sweeter, even though I’m fucking brutal with my attack.
Her lips twist over mine with the same intensity, her nails claw into my bare shoulders.
I shove the bulge of my cock in the cradle of her legs,
even though I know it will probably scare the shit out of her.

Review:

This was a pretty good book. The thing is, Renee Rose is known for her more erotic books, While this is a YA Paranormal Bully book, it's erotic. So not suitable for kids under 18, sorry about it. I did really love the story, and even when I wasn't reading I was thinking about this book. There is nothing complicated about this book, the author leaves it all out there for you to read.

There is angst, as any good bully high school book has, I mean...really it's the bread and butter of the genre. This one has the added bonus of being paranormal, and it's honestly what led me to read this book. It's different. It had a little extra something. I was not disappointed at all in this book. This story is told in dual pov.

About the ELEMENTS OF FIVE series

One thousand years ago, there was one realm of magic. The Maison Realm. It held five kingdoms with five kings or queens, who worked together to keep the Maison people safe and ensure the balance of magic. Over the last five hundred years following the Fall, the great war that began the fracture, many of the kingdoms’ inhabitants intermated, and the magics soon became tied to one another in pairs. Except for the Spirit Wielders. The two remaining kingdoms are now converging, and the veil between the two is fading. Only the human realm lies between the two, and no one there knows there is a war surrounding them.
Over time, certain children of the Fall began to leave their respective kingdoms to venture into the human realm in search of the prophesied Spirit Priestess who is said to wield the Elements of Five and bring the two fractured kingdoms together. For the realms are dying without their sister magics. And soon, there will be no more power left to rule the kingdoms, for there will be no more kingdoms left to rule.

Short Excerpt:
I heard the whistle of the metal as it was unsheathed from its case. The blade vibrated quickly from the slick movement. I felt the sharp point when the young man, hidden by the shadows, pressed it into my cheek. It sliced my face open with little pressure. It was well kept and sharp. So sharp it could easily cut through bone.
The blade was pressed against my neck, ready to end it all. I closed my eyes and tears spilled out. This was it. My life would end at their mercy to finally give me the death that I deserved. I thought of the night I first saw her. Genesis. My love. Seeing the terror on her face as she fled for her life broke my heart. I was glad I made the choice to step in and defend her then. It was no different with Thomas, and if dying at their hands meant she lived for eternity because of that one choice, then I served my purpose.
I remembered the way her lips felt the first time I kissed her. I took away her heartache, if only for a moment. It was blissful. Her kiss was as sweet as honey. I would never get to kiss those gentle lips again. Every one of my choices were worth it to have had her love for the time I did. Every argument, every kiss, every stolen touch, all of it worth it. I would do it all again for her if it meant that she would live on.
I felt the sharp edge cut slowly into my skin. The blood trickled down my throat as the sharp point found its place on my neck that it was looking for. I was ready. Death had finally found me.

Fitting in can be hard for anyone. But for Julian and Nika Adams, it’s especially challenging. Born as partial vampires, a rare offshoot of pureblood vampires, the twins have had to deceive people their entire lives—distancing themselves from their peers.
Nika desperately wants a hero, a soulmate, someone she can trust with every fibre of her soul—someone as amazing as her father. The boys at her high school aren’t impressing, but luckily for Nika, Hunter Evans has moved into the neighborhood.
Julian desperately wishes he could sever the empathic bond he has with his sister. While it was fun to experience each other’s emotions when they were kids, now that Julian finds himself pining for a girl he can’t have, sharing his feelings is the last thing he wants to do.

Read an excerpt of THE NEXT GENERATION now:

A slice of anger ran up my spine—I shivered with the strength of it. As I closed my eyes, intense, rolling hatred seared my body, tightened my muscles. I wasn’t angry at Arianna’s comment; I actually found it rather amusing. No, the anger scorching my soul wasn’t coming from me, but from Julian. And it was strong. He was pissed.
My eyes snapped to where I could feel him in the gym. He was moving away from the massive room, hopefully coming out to join me. Curiosity and concern blossomed in my chest. I really wanted to know why Julian was so angry. Although, knowing him, I did have one guess…
“I’ll work on that…” I murmured to Arianna as I felt Julian leave the gym and enter the boy’s locker room. Frowning, I wondered what the heck he was doing. His anger had spiked as he’d left the gym, not diminished. My concern heightened. I should go see what’s wrong with him.
Knowing Julian could feel me just as well as I could feel him, I tried to squelch the worry bubbling inside my stomach. I even tried sending calming feelings Julian’s way, but it wasn’t working. Whatever had him riled up wasn’t letting go; he was getting angrier and angrier.
Arianna laughed, then she started going into elaborate detail about all the dates she wanted to go on, and which boy she wanted to take on them—she had about five or six mapped out already. Tuning her out, I tried listening for my brother. I couldn’t hear him through the people and structures in the way though. My ears just weren’t enhanced enough. It irritated me sometimes that my family’s gifts were weaker in Julian and me—the two of us were much more human than vampire. But that allowed us to feel more normal than the others, and I did appreciate that fact. The limitations were just really inconvenient at times. While any of the other vampires in my family could have easily picked out the conversation Julian was having, all I was getting was low, husky murmuring. But his emotions were simmering, and that was all I needed to know.
Glancing at Arianna, I gathered all my stuff and zipped up my bag. She raised an eyebrow, but didn’t pause in telling me all about her imaginary date rock climbing with Jake McKinley. Giving her a soft smile, so she didn’t get too suspicious, I started to stand. “I’ll be right back, Arianna, I—” Dread locked up my muscles, and I halted mid-sentence and mid-stance. Fear. Julian was feeling fear now. His anger had been rising to a boiling point, but now it had shifted to stark terror, and I had no idea why. Dropping my bag to the ground, I hauled ass across the football field.
“Nika? Where are you going? What’s wrong?”
I ignored Arianna’s concern and kept running. I had to get to Julian. I could have blurred to him in a split-second, but hampering my abilities had been drilled into me since birth, and I wouldn’t go against that training unless the situation absolutely demanded it.  And when Julian’s fear shifted to panic…I began to believe that the situation demanded it.
But knowing that Arianna was staring at me as I ran away curbed the desire to blur to Julian. I wouldn’t freak out my friend if I could help it. And aside from extreme panic and lingering fear, Julian was okay. Well, he wasn’t in pain at any rate.
Pulling open the doors to the gym, the metal singing in complaint at my force, I suddenly felt a rush of agony. Gasping, I paused in my step. The zing of hurt had exploded over me, almost like I’d felt it myself. I hadn’t, though; it was separate from my own feelings of fearful concern. The pain had come from Julian…and renewed anger came right behind it.
Once I was inside the gymnasium, my hearing finally picked him up. He was cursing, and there was a lot of scuffling. It sounded like he’d gotten himself into a fight. Odd. Julian wasn’t one to pick on people. But then again, if what had happened earlier in the gym to make him so happy was what I was afraid it was…then yeah, he might have started this fight.
Cursing under my breath as another bout of pain lashed Julian’s body, I glanced around the empty halls. Seeing it was clear, I sped off after Julian. In mere seconds, I was at the edge of a group of people in the boy’s locker room. They were all cheering on a couple of guys going at it in the center. Two bodies were sprawled on the tile floor of the open shower, wild punches being slung everywhere.
From the blood bond and our emotional connection, I knew Julian was amid the melee. Silence shocked me for a second as I stood on the periphery and watched my brother through the cracks in the teenagers surrounding him. He’d gained the upper hand and was straddling a senior: Russell Morrison. I watched in horror as Julian successfully landed a punch to Russell’s jaw. So many racing heartbeats thudded in the room…it was nearly deafening. What the hell?
Knowing that our supernatural strength was superior to every other kid at this school made fear cut through my startled state. Julian could seriously hurt Russell if he wasn’t careful, and with the amount of pain and anger Julian was feeling right now, he didn’t seem to be worried about being careful anymore. He was completely out of control.
“Julian!” I screeched, an edge of panic to my voice. He could not get in a fight with a pure human. He’d accidentally kill him.

Review:
When I signed on to read this I had no idea it was part of a series, that was my fault and I should have looked. I read the blurb and was like, wow sign me on to read this bad boy. I can honestly say, I am so glad I read this. of course now I have to go back and read the others.LOL I did feel a little off not knowing the back story off all of the characters that shape this book, however, the author did a fantastic job and filling you in, if like me, you dive in, in the 4th book versus the first. This story is told in dual pov.
